In 2013, Glover joined NASA as an astronaut while working as a Legislative Fellow in the United States Senate. He has since been involved in several groundbreaking missions. And that includes serving as the pilot and second-in-command on the Crew-1 SpaceX Crew Dragon and as a Flight Engineer on the International Space Station as part of Expedition 64.
Artemis II pilot
Glover’s upcoming role as the pilot of Artemis II is a testament to his remarkable skills and expertise as an astronaut.
While the crew will not land on the moon during this mission, NASA has already announced its plans for Artemis III, where two astronauts will walk on the lunar surface for the first time since 1972.
Glover’s achievement is not only significant in terms of space exploration. And it is also a milestone in terms of representation.
NASA has been actively working to promote diversity and inclusivity in its astronaut corps, and Glover’s role as the first Black astronaut to visit the moon is a major step forward in this effort.
