Jonathan Levine has rejoined Winston & Strawn LLP as a partner in its New York transactions department, marking a return to the firm where he began his legal career more than 20 years ago. Levine brings significant experience in corporate restructurings and special situations, having most recently served as a restructuring partner at McDermott Will & Emery LLP.

Levine specializes in navigating complex corporate restructurings, both in and out of court, for a diverse clientele that includes distressed companies, direct lenders, hedge funds, asset managers, ad hoc creditor groups, and private equity sponsors. He also advises on distressed M&A, exchange offers, liability management, and other special credit situations.

In a statement, Levine highlighted the strategic appeal of rejoining Winston: “The firm’s robust global platform, deep private credit and direct lending capabilities, and top-tier capital markets practice provide the ideal tools to support clients across the restructuring spectrum. Winston’s collaborative culture and commitment to excellence made this decision an easy one.”

Levine previously held partner roles at Arnold & Porter, Morrison Foerster, and Andrews Kurth before joining McDermott in 2022. His return to Winston — where he started as an associate from 2000 to 2002 after graduating from UCLA School of Law — underscores his confidence in the firm’s direction and capabilities.

His industry experience spans sectors including aviation, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, energy, manufacturing, mining, technology, telecommunications, shipping, and logistics. He anticipates a sustained shift toward out-of-court restructuring, fueled by growing distressed M&A activity, alternative financing solutions, and the increasing complexity of liability management.

“Winston’s integrated approach — connecting finance, capital markets, and restructuring — positions us to offer unique insights and value as clients adapt to these changes,” Levine added.

New York office managing partner Krishnan Padmanabhan praised Levine’s addition as a strategic fit. “Jonathan’s work at the crossroads of private credit, special situations, and private equity strengthens our presence in New York and enhances our client offerings,” he said.

Timothy Kincaid and Brad Vaiana, co-chairs of Winston’s transactions department, echoed this view, calling Levine a seasoned professional with a rare ability to advise across all sides of the restructuring landscape. “His return supports our growth ambitions and deepens our capabilities in special situations.”
