Late Friday night in Wintergreen, Virginia, an act of violence tragically ended the life of a local police officer, marking him the latest wintergreen police officer killed. Officer Mark Christopher “Chris” Wagner II was fatally wounded, with three others injured during the incident.
Virginia State Police (VSP) reported that the Wintergreen Police Department received a distress call around 10 p.m. about a male suspect who assaulted two other individuals on Arrowood Lane. Upon the arrival of the authorities, these two injured men had already fled the scene. They are currently being treated at UVA Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
Wintergreen Police Officer Killed : A Confrontation in the Woods
Officer Wagner, being the first responder to arrive at the incident site, encountered the suspect hidden in the nearby woods.
A violent struggle ensued, during which Wagner was shot and later pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the fatal confrontation, Wintergreen Police and the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office took the suspect into custody.
