A woman has filed a negligence lawsuit against the City of Boca Raton, claiming she suffered serious injuries after tripping over an unmarked speed bump at Spanish River Park. The lawsuit, submitted in February 2026, seeks $200,000 in damages, which represents the statutory maximum recovery allowed in Florida for individual tort claims against local government entities.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred on March 2, 2024, when Irene Bracco was walking along a paved road inside the oceanfront park. The filing alleges that she tripped over a speed bump that was not properly marked, painted, or clearly visible against the pavement surface. The plaintiff argues that the city failed to maintain safe conditions for pedestrians visiting the public recreational area.

The lawsuit claims that the city installed speed control structures on a pathway frequently used by park visitors but did not provide sufficient warning signs or visual indicators. The speed bumps reportedly blended into the road surface, increasing the risk of accidents for walkers and joggers using the area.
