On Tuesday the Google AI retooled search engine was introduced as a groundbreaking AI feature into its flagship search engine. It also triggered concerns among news publishers. They fear it could drastically reduce traffic to their websites and impact their bottom line.

The change, announced at Google’s annual developers conference, involves integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into search results, then favoring AI-generated responses over traditional website links.

This shift promises to speed up information retrieval but poses a significant threat to the financial model of many media outlets and platforms.
