Private markets firm Apogem Capital announced Tuesday it has sealed its 11th private equity vehicle with a robust $597 million in total commitments, hitting the hard ceiling in a climate thick with economic crosscurrents.

Apogem Private Equity Fund XI gathered $580 million from limited partners and another $17 million from the firm’s own employees, according to a company statement. The capital will flow into the lower middle market, constructing diversified portfolios that span fund managers, independent sponsors and direct investments across North America—like a seasoned navigator charting multiple channels through choppy waters.

Resilience Amid Uncertainty

“Despite macroeconomic uncertainty and market volatility, we continue to find compelling opportunities in the lower middle market where activity levels and distributions have remained resilient,” said Richard Wiltshire, Apogem managing director and head of co-investments. “APEF XI is positioned to capitalize on the breadth of opportunities we see across emerging managers, independent sponsors and direct investments, while maintaining the discipline that has guided our approach through multiple market cycles.”

The fund drew backing from longtime limited partners plus a global roster of institutional investors that includes public and private pension plans, family offices and registered investment advisers, the statement noted.

Fresh Partners Join the Fold

“We are grateful for the continued support of our longstanding investors and are pleased to welcome new institutional partners to APEF XI,” said Louise Smith, Apogem managing director and co-head of fund investments. “We believe exposure to emerging managers and the lower middle market can add alpha and diversification to institutional private equity portfolios, with the added benefit of resilience in challenging environments.”

Apogem Capital, which oversees roughly $44 billion in assets, offers a broad suite of investment solutions encompassing direct lending, private equity funds and co-investments, general partner-led transactions, limited partner secondaries, general partner stakes and private real assets, according to the statement.

Legal counsel details for the firm advising Apogem were not immediately available Tuesday, and a company representative did not respond to a request for further information.
