A Manhattan federal judge has rejected a request to delay Rudy Giuliani’s trial, setting the stage for the controversial showdown over whether the former New York City mayor will have to part with his Florida condo and World Series rings to cover a $148 million defamation judgment. The trial, scheduled for January 16, will examine whether Giuliani must surrender assets to pay for the damages caused by false claims he made against two Georgia poll workers, Ruby Freeman and Wandrea “Shaye” Moss, during the 2020 election.

Giuliani NY Trial : Giuliani’s Legal Troubles Mount

During a contentious hearing on Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman firmly rejected Giuliani’s new lawyer, Joseph Cammarata’s, request to postpone the trial until mid-February. The judge noted that Giuliani had ample notice of the proceedings and had already received several extensions in the past.

“Defendant has already sought and received multiple extensions,” Judge Liman stated, emphasizing that the trial had been set in October. Despite Giuliani’s objections, the judge ruled that the case would move forward as scheduled.

Courtroom Drama as Giuliani Fights Back

The trial will delve into whether Giuliani’s Florida condo and up to four New York Yankees World Series rings can be seized to satisfy the judgment. The court also will decide whether Giuliani’s son, Andrew, has a legitimate claim to the rings. Giuliani’s new legal team insists the case should be delayed due to the “bombardment” of ongoing legal battles against him, but Judge Liman disagreed, pushing for a swift resolution.

Giuliani’s claims of political persecution were echoed by Cammarata, who argued that the former mayor is defending multiple criminal and civil cases across the country, including charges in Arizona and Georgia related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Despite these challenges, the judge ruled that the defamation trial would continue without delay.

Giuliani's Heated Response: "Everything I Have Is Tied Up"

During the hearing, Giuliani grew increasingly agitated, calling the trial process “wrong” and “totally incorrect.” When questioned about his financial situation, Giuliani asserted, “I’m not impoverished. Everything I have is tied up,” in reference to his current financial woes.

Judge Liman reminded Giuliani that his lawyer should represent him unless he chooses to defend himself, further intensifying the already tense courtroom atmosphere. The judge also addressed Cammarata’s criticisms of Giuliani’s former legal team, Kenneth Caruso and David Labkowski, who had stepped away from the case shortly before the hearing. Cammarata claimed that Giuliani’s former attorneys left him unprepared for the trial.

Tensions Rise as Giuliani Voices Political Persecution Claims

Outside the courtroom, Giuliani showed no signs of backing down. When confronted by reporters, he dismissed the trial as a “foregone conclusion” and reiterated his belief that he is being politically persecuted.
