An intense Idaho manhunt is underway. Law enforcement agencies have mobilized to track down an escaped prisoner and his unidentified accomplice. 

During an ambush at the Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, three Idaho Department of Corrections officers were shot during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Officers Down

According to reports from the Boise Police Department, Skylar Meade, 31, managed to escape police custody.

His accomplice attacked the officers and unleashed gunfire in front of the hospital's emergency room.

The officers, who were preparing to transport Meade back to prison, found themselves under attack in what authorities describe as a coordinated assault.

Three officers sustained gunshot wounds, with one currently in critical but stable condition. Another policeman faces serious but non-life-threatening injuries. 

A third officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the exchange of gunfire after Boise police arrived at the scene.

The escapees fled the scene in a grey, four-door sedan, suspected to be a Honda Civic. 

The identity of Meade's accomplice remains unknown.

Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar condemned, "This brazen, violent, and apparently coordinated attack on Idaho Department of Corrections personnel, to facilitate an escape of a dangerous inmate, was carried out right in front of the emergency department, where people come for medical help, often in the direst circumstances." 

Chief Winegar stressed the dangerous nature of the suspects, and the urgency of their apprehension. 

Descriptions provided by prison officials paint a picture of a 5-foot-6-inch white male with brown hair and hazel eyes, weighing 150 pounds, adorned with tattoos across his arms, chest, calf, abdomen, and face.

Meade and his accomplice remain at large. Authorities issued an alert asking the public for help. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects should contact emergency services at 911.

Meade, a convicted felon, has a history of violent offenses, including an incident in 2017 where he fired shots at a sheriff's sergeant during a high-speed chase.
