IRS Whistleblower Alleges Political Interference in Hunter Biden case removed from Investigation

IRS Whistleblower

Attorneys representing an IRS whistleblower who alleges political interference in the ongoing criminal investigation of Hunter Biden met with congressional investigators on Friday.

On Monday Tristan Leavitt, President of Empower Oversight, and Mark Lytle, attorneys for the whistleblower sent notice to a series of House and Senate Committee chairmen.

They alerted Congress that the whistleblower and his investigative team have been taken off the case. And added that the whistleblower was “informed the change was at the request of the Department of Justice.”

The letter claims the investigation being shuttered is of a “high-profile, controversial subject,” which sources have previously confirmed was Hunter Biden.

IRS Whistleblower says investigation shut down

The purpose of Friday’s meeting was to lay the groundwork for the whistleblower's potential in-person testimony before Congress, according to CNN

Such disclosure is a typical early step in whistleblower cases involving sensitive tax information.

The attorneys met with investigators from the Democratic-led Senate Finance Committee and the Republican-led House Ways and Means Committee in a private session.

The whistleblower alleges that Delaware US Attorney David Weiss, overseeing the case, faces obstacles due to political interference by appointees.

This contradicts Attorney General Merrick Garland's testimony to Congress, in which he assured that Weiss has full authority to make decisions regarding the prosecution of President Joe Biden's son.

The attorneys claim that their client, an IRS criminal supervisory special agent, has been overseeing a sensitive investigation involving Hunter Biden.

The investigation into Hunter’s alleged tax crimes, corruption, and false statements has been ongoing for years during the terms of three attorney generals. Federal prosecutors have considered bringing charges against him but have not done so to date.

Hunter and Joe Biden say nothing to see here

Hunter Biden has maintained his innocence throughout the investigation.

The president reaffirmed his support for his son on Friday. He added that the Justice Department’s investigation wouldn’t impact his presidency.

“First of all, my son has done nothing wrong. I trust him. I have faith in him,” Joe Biden told MSNBC. “It impacts my presidency by making me feel proud of him.”

In an April statement, the White House claimed President Biden was committed to an investigation “free from any political interference.”

“President Biden has made clear that this matter would be handled independently by the Justice Department, under the leadership of a U.S. Attorney appointed by President Trump, free from any political interference by the White House. He has upheld that commitment,” White House spokesman Ian Sams said.

Whistleblower has insider info

The IRS whistleblower claims to possess information that contradicts the sworn testimony of a senior political appointee, identified as Attorney General Merrick Garland. During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Garland pledged not to interfere with the investigation, but the whistleblower alleges otherwise.

The decision to remove the whistleblower from the investigation and sideline their investigative team has raised concerns of retaliation and potential obstruction of a congressional inquiry.

Attorneys for the whistleblower argue that such actions are illegal and constitute a violation of whistleblower protections. They have called on congressional committee leaders to address the matter promptly.

This latest development adds to the ongoing conflict between Congress and the executive branch over whistleblower complaints and the Bidens.

The fate of the investigation into Hunter Biden now rests with David Weiss, who awaits a charging decision.

The IRS whistleblower, despite being removed from the investigation, remains protected under whistleblower laws and has not lost their job at the IRS.
