The Instagram post that said everything

While the rent was going unpaid on his NYC luxury condo and creditors were lining up at the courthouse, Mayweather was active on Instagram. He posted a photo of himself sitting on a private jet — surrounded by stacks of cash — with a caption that's going to be Exhibit A in the court of public opinion for a very long time.

"I just be minding my business."

Posted while allegedly owing rent, IRS taxes, jewelry bills, and a private jet charter fee.

Look, I understand the art of the flex. But there's a point where posting stacks of cash while your creditors are filing suit stops being a power move and starts being evidence. And right now, Floyd is dangerously close to that line.

Mayweather's version of events

To be fair — and I believe in being fair — Mayweather has pushed back on the narrative that he's broke. He has filed a $340 million lawsuit against Showtime Networks, claiming that hundreds of millions from his career earnings were diverted by his former manager Al Haymon into third-party accounts. Showtime has called the claims baseless. He has also filed a separate defamation suit against Business Insider.

If Mayweather's allegations against Haymon and Showtime are true, this story has a very different shape — a man who was defrauded of his own fortune fighting back against those who took it. But that case still has to be proven in court. In the meantime, the lawsuits against him are real, documented, and multiplying.

The comeback plan — and whether it can save him

Mayweather clearly sees the fight game as his way back. A rematch against Manny Pacquiao has been set for September on Netflix. Their 2015 matchup generated roughly $600 million in revenue, so the logic of going back to that well makes sense on paper. But there are already complications: Pacquiao's camp says Mayweather took upfront money, signed for a pro fight, and is now trying to change the terms, putting the 2026 rematch in jeopardy.

He's also reportedly planning an exhibition against Mike Tyson. Logan Paul has separately questioned whether he'll ever receive the balance of what he's owed from their 2021 exhibition match. When the people you're supposed to fight next are also questioning whether you'll honor your financial commitments, that's a problem that goes beyond one unpaid jet bill.

The bottom line

I'm not here to celebrate anyone's downfall. Floyd Mayweather's career was a masterpiece. What he built inside the ring — and the business empire he constructed around it — was genuinely extraordinary. But the story we're watching right now, outside the ring, is a cautionary tale that every athlete, entertainer, and entrepreneur needs to study.

You can earn a billion dollars and still end up in court over a $105,000 jet bill. You can be undefeated your entire career and still lose the financial fight. The scorecards don't always favor "Money" — and right now, the judges are wearing IRS badges and holding court filings.
