Project Amethyst and AI-Driven Rendering
Sony and AMD have reportedly collaborated on advanced rendering technologies under an initiative known as Project Amethyst. Several technologies unveiled by AMD in late 2025 are widely believed to align with Sony’s next console plans.
Among the reported innovations:
• Neural Arrays: A restructured GPU compute approach designed to enhance AI tasks like upscaling and denoising with lower performance overhead.
• Radiance Cores: Dedicated hardware for ray and path tracing traversal, intended to offload heavy computation from shader cores.
• Universal Compression: A software-driven system designed to improve effective memory bandwidth by compressing data flowing through the graphics pipeline.
If implemented as described, these technologies could significantly improve performance efficiency without requiring extreme hardware scaling.
Connectivity upgrades such as HDMI 2.2 and USB4 Version 2.0 are also expected, particularly if the console launches closer to 2028.
