Police bodycam footage was released on Tuesday evening of a house raid conducted by Elyria police, leading to the hospitalization of a 17-month-old toddler.

The incident is the center of a full investigation by the mayor of Elyria, who expressed deep concern over the allegations against the police department.

The police posted their version of the raid on the Elyria Police Department Facebook page.

Police Bodycam Footage

The bodycam footage was also released on the City of Elyria YouTube channel. The woman claims to have ring video, as well.

The disturbing videos capture SWAT officers entering and searching a Parmely Avenue home where Courtney Price and her 17-month-old son Waylon were residing with Price's aunt, Reida Jennings. 

The released footage reveals the intensity of the raid, with officers loudly announcing a search warrant and deploying a flash-bang grenade, into the window.

A woman inside the home, presumably the toddler's mother, emerges with her hands up, expressing concern that her baby is inside on a ventilator.

According to family members, the flash-bang grenade injured the baby, who was awaiting surgery for a heart defect.

Contrary to police statements that the baby was not exposed to chemical agents, the family insists that the grenade caused burns to the toddler's lungs.

Additional police bodycam footage shows officers handcuffing the child's mother on the front lawn, raising questions about the handling of the situation.

Delay of Medical Treatment

Courtney Price alleges that the police did not provide timely care for her baby and prevented her from reaching him for 40 minutes while she was handcuffed. The released video suggests a significant delay before she was allowed to attend to her injured child.

Elyria police maintain that they called an ambulance to the scene for the baby's medical attention after releasing the woman from handcuffs. They deny any allegations of chemical exposure or inadequate medical care.

Ongoing Investigations

The mayor of Elyria acknowledges that the footage of the incident reveals many details of the incident. But he emphasizes that it does not address the underlying questions about what led to the warrant itself.

Consequently, an external investigation has been requested to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding the issuance of the warrant.

The family contends that the person the police were searching for is a past tenant of a former owner, and they claim to have informed the police on multiple occasions about his absence from the property.

 The toddler, Waylon, is reported to be recovering. He is still hospitalized at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital.

An investigation to determine the events leading up to the raid and the subsequent handling of the situation is ongoing.
