Vincent van Gogh's prized masterpiece, "Spring Garden, The Parsonage Garden at Nuenen in Spring, 1884," was stolen in 2021. The stolen Van Gogh painting was successfully recovered after a daring operation led by Dutch private art detective Arthur Brand, often referred to as the "Indiana Jones of the art world."

The 1884 masterpiece was stolen from the Singer Laren Museum in a daring smash-and-grab robbery during the closure of the museum due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This valuable artwork had been on loan to the Singer Laren from the Groninger Museum voor Stad en Lande in the Netherlands.

Video footage from the security cameras at the Singer Laren Museum captured the heart-stopping moment when an intruder broke through the glass doors using a sledgehammer and fled the scene with the priceless van Gogh painting.

Arthur Brand's relentless pursuit and expertise in the world of art recovery played a pivotal role in the safe return of the Dutch Post-Impressionist's work. The recovery operation culminated in a meeting between Brand and an undisclosed contact in Amstelveld, a central square in Amsterdam.

The stolen masterpiece was concealed within a bloody pillowcase, carefully tucked away inside a blue Ikea tote bag. The emotional reunion of the painting with museum officials was described as "truly amazing" by Taco Dibbits, General Director of the Rijksmuseum.

Brand posted on Instagram on September 12 that “Vincent van Gogh is back! In close coordination with the Dutch Police, I was able to recover Van Gogh's 'Spring Garden' (1884). The painting was stolen 3 years ago on Van Gogh's birthday from the Singer Museum in Laren, the Netherlands. A great day for all Van Gogh lovers worldwide...”

In a video, Brand holds the van Gogh panel and said he was planning to have a drink with all the Dutch police officers who worked on its recovery after handing it over to museum director Andreas Blühm.

The artwork itself, created early in van Gogh's career, depicts a captivating scene featuring a brushy figure standing in a garden with a church as the backdrop.

This particular piece was created during a brief period when the artist lived in the Dutch city of Nuenen. His father served as a pastor in a local parish.
