T-Mobile providing free two years of identity protection services due to  data breach

The freebie comes as T-Mobile is dealing with a massive data breach that affected millions of its customers.

Based on the telecommunication company’s preliminary investigation, the hackers stole the information of its approximately 7.8 million current T-Mobile postpaid customers and around 850,000 active T-Mobile prepaid customers.

The hackers also stole the data of over 40 million former and prospective customers who previously applied for credit with the telecommunications company.

T-Mobile said the customers’  phone numbers, account numbers, PINs, passwords, or financial information were not compromised. The telecommunications company immediately took steps to help protect all of the individuals affected by the data breach. It is providing two years of free identity protection services with McAfee’s ID Theft Protection Service.
