Now, the deal with Tesla is expected to revitalize Samsung’s foundry ambitions. The $16.5 billion agreement will run through 2033, although Musk hinted at a far larger scale.
“The $16.5B number is just the bare minimum. Actual output is likely to be several times higher,” Musk noted in another post.

Musk emphasized that Tesla will actively help optimize manufacturing efficiency at the Texas fab. He even plans to visit the site personally.
“Samsung agreed to allow Tesla to assist in maximizing manufacturing efficiency. I will walk the line personally… the fab is conveniently located not far from my house,” Musk wrote.
Samsung previously manufactured Tesla’s AI4 chips, while TSMC was tapped to produce the AI5 chips. The new deal positions Samsung as a key partner in Tesla’s AI roadmap, with AI6 production likely starting after 2026.
