President Donald Trump cancelled his meeting on infrastructure spending with congressional Democratic leaders on Wednesday after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said he engaged in a “cover-up.”

Trump slammed Democrats over their ongoing investigations, calls for impeachment and Pelosi’s accusation of cover-up. He told Democratic leaders that he can’t work with them while they are investigating him and his administration.

After walking out of the meeting, the President went to the White House Rose Garden and delivered a spontaneous speech. He told reporters, “I think most of you would agree to this, I’m the most transparent president probably in the history of this of this country…I don’t do cover-ups…I let everybody talk…I said open it all up, let them have whatever they want.”

Trump says the investigations are “take-down attempt”

Trump reiterated that the Mueller report indicated that there was “no collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign.”

In his 448-page report, Special Counsel Robert Mueller said “the Russian government interfered in the 2016 presidential election in sweeping and systematic fashion.” His team found multiple links between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

However, they “did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.” He explained that his team focused on criminal conspiracy not collusion.

Mueller also stated in his report that he “found multiple acts by the President” that could have caused “undue influence” over the investigations into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election. The Special Counsel did not make a determination whether Trump did or did not commit obstruction of justice.

“Here’s the bottom line: There was no collusion, there was no obstruction. The crime was committed on the other side… He emphasized, “This whole thing was a take-down attempt at the president of the United States,” said Trump during his remarks on Wednesday.

Reaction from Democratic leaders

In response to the President's actions and remarks, Pelosi called it "very strange." She also said, “I pray for the president of the United States, and I pray for the United States.”

On the other hand, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, commented, “It’s clear that this was not a spontaneous move on the president’s part. It was planned." He noted that there were printed signs at the Rose Garden and handouts containing information about the Mueller investigation were given reporters.
