The son of U.S. President Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, is bracing himself to admit guilt to a duo of misdemeanour tax crimes in addition to admitting unlawful possession of a firearm while a drug user.

The news follows a marathon investigation spanning five years. The Delaware U.S. Attorney has intimated that a plea agreement is in the making.

These admissions are expected to go hand in hand with an agreement to pursue drug treatment and constant monitoring - a roadmap that might steer Hunter Biden away from jail time.

The proposed deal, however, awaits judicial approval, with the timeline for his court appearance to plead guilty to the tax charges remaining undetermined.

The gun charge sprouts from an acquisition of a firearm during an active period of drug use in 2018.

Hunter Biden's 2021 book had him confessing to extensive use of crack cocaine during this period.

However, he seemingly refuted his addiction on a federal form by ticking "no" against a query on drug addiction or abuse.
