Amidst the whirlwind backdrop of partner exits and a looming merger with Allen & Overy LLP, the firm announced on Monday the strategic reappointment of Alejandro Gordano from Linklaters LLP.

This move is seen as a masterstroke in bolstering its Latin America expertise.

 Gordano's Odyssey: From Shearman to Linklaters and Back

Alejandro Gordano isn't just another counsel.

Having served at Linklaters for a noteworthy span of three and a half years, he now makes a triumphant return to Shearman's New York fortress, not just as an attorney but as a partner in its crucial capital markets division.

It's akin to a seasoned captain navigating through different waters, only to return to his original ship.

Gordano's vast experience encompasses serving corporations, venture capitalists, governments, and state-owned entities throughout Latin America.

Adam Hakki, Shearman's senior partner, likened Gordano to a compass in turbulent waters.

"Alejandro possesses a sharp acumen in understanding the unique opportunities and challenges resonating within Latin America," he remarked on Monday.

Shearman and Sterling : The Gordano Journey

This isn't Gordano's first rodeo with Shearman.

His legal saga commenced at Marval O'Farrell & Mairal in Buenos Aires.

By 2005, he'd made his mark at Shearman's New York office, soaring to the position of senior associate.

His career took him to Credit Suisse and then back to Shearman's London chamber.

Yet, destiny had other plans, and by 2020, he was counseling at Linklaters.

On his recent transition, Gordano exuberantly stated, "Returning to Shearman at such a transformational juncture feels like coming home." He acknowledged that his re-engagement predates the merger news with Allen & Overy, a move that only amplified his zeal.

His vast network, which reads like a 'who's who' of investment banking – including titans like Citigroup, JP Morgan, and HSBC – has the industry buzzing with excitement.

A Year of Strategic Moves

Gordano is the third in line of power players joining Shearman's Latin American division this year.

Earlier, the firm strategically onboarded Mona Dajani and Jorge Medina, known for their prowess in renewable energy and infrastructure at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP.

Robert O'Leary's recent promotion and the firm's decision to recalibrate its Seoul presence in anticipation of the merger with Allen & Overy further underscores Shearman's decisive maneuvers in the legal chessboard.
