In a move designed to upend the AI assistant landscape, Meta Platforms Inc. on Tuesday released its first-ever standalone AI application, catapulting its in-house Meta AI assistant beyond the walls of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp and into the ring with heavyweights like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Unveiled by CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a video post on Instagram, the app was pitched as an intimate digital partner built to understand you — really understand you.

“Meta AI is designed to be your personal AI,” Zuckerberg said, emphasizing its voice-first design. “You’re going to be able to let Meta AI know a whole lot about you and the people you care about across our apps if you want.”

It’s a promise of hyper-personalization that borders on clairvoyance, suggesting a future where your AI knows your habits, your circle, and your priorities — and possibly your secrets.
