The survivors of the Florida school shooting held a rally today demanding Congress to take action on gun control. One of them issued a serious warning to lawmakers if they refused to act: “We will vote you out.”

During a rally at the Florida state Capitol, Florence Yared slammed lawmakers who said that it’s too soon to talk about gun control. According her, “There is no better time that now to talk about gun control.”

She emphasized that someone else may also become a victim of gun violence if we wait. “Your children may become victims too,” said the Florida school shooting survivor.

Yared noted that if Florida had stricter gun control measures, “17 families will be having dinner tonight together instead of mourning the loss of their loved ones.”

Additionally, Yared said pointed out Congress is “directly responsible for every community that has people to gun violence.” It has the power to change the situation.

She warned, “If you don’t, then we will change you.  We may be too young to vote, but soon we will be able to vote. We will vote you out.”

Florida school shooting survivors want stricter gun control rules

Furthermore, Yared emphasized that many young Americans like her can’t wait to vote and run for office. They want to “make a change” and to “make a safer world.”

“You adults failed us. So we, the next generation, will not fail our own kids. If you do not take action now, then we, the future leaders of America, will,” she said.

The Florida school shooting survivors are demanding stronger background checks. They are also proposing stricter gun control rules for people with mental health problems.

On Monday, Florida Gov. Rick Scott said he will convene local and state leaders to work on solutions to keep students safe. The governor said they will discuss school safety improvements and keeping guns away from people with mental illness.

Florida lawmakers rejected measure to ban semiautomatic weapons

Meanwhile, state lawmakers on Tuesday voted 71-36 against a motion to consider a ban on semiautomatic weapons.

The students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School who were at the Capitol gallery during the vote were surprised.

One of the students, Sheryl Acquaroli told CNN, "It was just so heartbreaking to see how many (voters') names were up there…"

Another student Spencer Blum, commented, "That's unacceptable. It shows that they don't care about us."
