House Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez spoke out against President Trump, following "send her back" chants about Ilhan Omar. The chants took place at one of the president's rallies in Greenville, North Carolina during Wednesday evening. On Thursday, Trump disavowed the chants made by his supporters, but his critics still maintain that his disavowal lacks sincerity. Following the incident in North Carolina, Ocasio-Cortez slammed the president, claiming that he is endangering "millions" of Americans.

Ocasio-Cortez expressed her dissatisfaction with the "send her back" chants while speaking to the press. The congresswoman stated that President Trump has created a culture which is unsafe for Americans who believe in equal rights for all. In AOC's own words: "His rhetoric is endangering lots of people. It’s not just about threats to individual members of Congress, but it is about creating a volatile environment in this country through violent rhetoric that puts anyone like Ilhan, anyone who believes in the rights of all people, in danger. Pressley, Omar, and Tlaib have found themselves in a heated feud with the president. The congresswomen held a press conference after Trump posted a series of tweets urging the congresswomen to "go back" to their "crime infested" countries, gain leadership skills, and then come back. Trump critics branded the tweets as racist, but the president denied these claims.

"The Squad" vs. Trump

Following the controversial tweets from President Trump, the four congresswomen have expressed concerns about their safety. During an interview, Rep. Tlaib stated that Pelosi ought to be mindful of criticizing herself, Pressley, Ocasio-Cortez and Omar since they are women of color. Since the tweets from the president and the recent anti-Omar chants in North Carolina, Ocasio-Cortez has requested to meet with Speaker Pelosi. The meeting will presumably revolve around the working relationship between AOC and Pelosi. At this time, a date for the meeting remains unannounced; however, the chief-of-staffs for Pelosi and Ocasio-Cortez are reportedly in contact with one another.
