The officer-involved deadly shooting happened on Friday when Austin Police responded to a 9-1-1 call regarding a man allegedly taking drugs in a car and holding a gun, according to Manley during a press briefing after the incident.

He said responding officers arrived on the scene at an apartment complex parking lot at 2601 South Pleasant Valley and confronted the man who stepped out of his car and raised his hands to show that he had no weapon.

The responding officers gave orders to the man but he refused to comply. One officer shot the man with a non-lethal beanbag. The man went back inside his car and started to drive-off. His action prompted another officer to fire his rifle several times at the fleeing vehicle and fatally shot the man who was later identified as Michael Brent Ramos.
