On Monday Alexandra Eckersley, the daughter of Major League Baseball (MLB) Hall of Fame pitcher Dennis Eckersley, was arrested. She is facing a felony charge of reckless conduct. Her newborn baby was found unclothed and freezing in 18-degree weather in the woods outside Manchester, New Hampshire.

Officers responded to a report that a woman had given birth to a baby in a tent in the woods near the West Side Arena around 1 a.m. The Boston 25 News reported that Alexandra, 26, allegedly lied to police about the baby’s location.

After an hour of searching, he was found unclothed and struggling to breathe. 

The infant was on the floor of a tent. 'Officers located the baby who was treated by EMTs and transported to a local hospital for treatment,' according to the Manchester Fire Department.

The baby was taken to the Catholic Medical Center. And there is currently no update on the baby’s status.

Alexandra was arrested on a separate warrant out of Concord, N.H. And was charged in the District Court with endangering the welfare of a child. 

She was also charged with a felony for reckless conduct, police reported.

Mental health and addiction issues

Alexandra has been homeless and struggling with mental illness and substance abuse for around 5 years.

In a 2019 interview with the Concord Monitor, Alexandra said she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety.

The adopted daughter of MLB legend Dennis Eckersley allegedly gave birth to her baby in a freezing tent, before leading police to the wrong spot to find the infant.

Cops believe Eckersley was high on drugs. She denies she is using.  When they asked why she lied, Eckersley reportedly said, "What do they tell when a plane goes down? Save yourself first." 

Her boyfriend was with the woman at the time police arrived. And may also face charges.

MLB Hall of Fame pitcher 

Dennis Eckersley, aka “'Eck,' 68, was an American professional baseball player. And a former commentator. 

He played 24 seasons from 1975 to 1998. And as a pitcher, he played for the Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Oakland Athletics, and St. Louis Cardinals. He was only one of two major league pitchers to have a 20-win season and a 50-save season in a career.

In 2004 he became a Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher.

In 2019 the Eckersley family issued a statement that said, “Our hearts are broken,” it read. “Unfortunately, in her situation, the issue is less about homelessness and more about mental illness. We continue to hope Allie seeks the mental health treatment she desperately needs so she can get her life back on track.”
