Iran sent a barrage of over 200 drones and missiles towards Israel, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing Middle East War. Saturday's attack was timed after Israel announced it was withdrawing from the Gaza Strip.

Over 90% of the missiles and aerial projectiles were blocked by the Israeli air defense system. 

Iran is claiming the attacks are retaliation for the April 1 bombing of Iran's embassy in Syria. The attack killed seven of Iran’s military advisers, including three senior commanders.

Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, minced no words in vowing punishment for Israel, accusing the U.S. of complicity in the embassy bombing. These accusations have sparked diplomatic tensions and raised the stakes in an already volatile situation.

International reaction to the latest attack on Israel came swiftly. Great Britain, Germany, Spain, and Colombia along with others have all condemned Iran.

Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7 and killed 1,200 Israelis. Iran has long been accused of providing funding and support to militant groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. Although there are many confirmed links to Iran and the terrorist attacks Iran has denied being involved.

And the Biden administration has spent time in the "War Room” with U.S. officials expressing concerns about being drawn into a direct confrontation with Iran.

Israel has bolstered its defensive and offensive capabilities, with Defense Minister Yoav Gallant labeling Iran a "terrorist state." Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a war cabinet in response to the escalating threats.

As the situation unfolds, diplomatic channels remain active, with key figures from the U.S. and Israel engaging in discussions to navigate the crisis. The Wall Street Journal reported the U.S. moving warships to support Israel in anticipation of potential Iranian aggression.
