Police were able to connect Garcia to each of the cases through a combination of video evidence, phone records, and data obtained from a license plate reader.

Garcia’s vehicle and phone records were allegedly traced to the locations where the victims were last seen alive and where their lifeless bodies were discovered. According to an arrest warrant affidavit, DNA evidence from all three sexual assault kits was employed to link Garcia to the crimes.

Serial Killings after Domestic Violence

On March 13, Garcia was apprehended for assaulting his girlfriend, reportedly striking her four times in the face during a heated argument over using his bank card to buy diapers.

The arrest documents noted that the girlfriend sustained lacerations and swelling on her face as a result of the incident. Garcia’s arrest for a family violence assault causing bodily injury was classified as a misdemeanor.

The Dallas Police Department (DPD) has come under scrutiny for failing to notify U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) when they arrested Garcia for the assault.
