Demolition has officially begun on part of the East Wing of the White House to make way for former President Donald Trump’s planned Whitehouse Ballroom, a project he has touted as “the most beautiful ballroom in the country.”

According to The Washington Post, crews were seen tearing down portions of the building earlier this week, marking the start of one of the largest White House renovation projects in over a century.

Construction Begins for a Whitehouse Ballroom

Trump announced on Truth Social, “Ground has been broken on the White House to build the new ballroom. I am honored to be the first President to finally get this much-needed project underway — with zero cost to the American taxpayer!” He added that the project is “being privately funded by many generous Patriots, Great American Companies, and, yours truly.”

Plans for the $250 million addition first emerged in July, with White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirming that the proposed ballroom would span 90,000 square feet and seat up to 650 people.
