Police report that the tragic murder-suicide was committed by a Los Angeles woman who feared Monday’s eclipse was the apocalypse. Danielle Johnson, 34 stabbed her boyfriend to death and later pushed her 8-month-old baby onto a freeway before killing herself.

Neighbors say Johnson and Jaelen Allen Chaney, 29 were heard arguing in their Woodland Hills apartment at 3:40 am. Then Johnson stabbed Chaney and fled with her two children in her Porsche SUV. She was spotted on the freeway pushing her kids out of the car.

 LAPD Lt. Guy Golan told local news outlet ABC7 that “The suspect slowed the vehicle and opened the passenger door for her daughter and told her to get out of the car. When the daughter didn’t do that, she forcibly pushed her out of the vehicle in the middle of the freeway while moving.”

Golan said the 9-year-old was holding her sister when they were thrown out of the car. The baby died after being struck by another vehicle.

Johnson then drove her car to Redondo Beach, about 15 miles away. And crashed into a tree at speeds over 100 mph.

The older sister was taken to the hospital. And is now being cared for by Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services.

No History of Violence

Police have not found a prior record of violence for Johnson or in the relationship.

The couple had been dating for 3 years and had lived together for over a year.

Matthew Chiricas, Chaney’s brother said the couple traveled around Europe. Chaney was in the Air Force and stationed in Italy. 

Chiricas told the Daily Mail that “He was in the Air Force, but he had dreams to become a weatherman. He was just like the rest of us, trying to have fun and trying to have a family.”

“We really don’t know why this incident escalated to such violence,” Lt. Golan commented. “Looking at the history between the victim and suspect, they have been dating for a few years, but there’s no prior incidents of domestic violence reported between the two.”

A Personal Apocalypse 

According to her website, Johnson, who went by the online name Daniella Ayoka, said she was a practicing shaman, an astrologer and certified reiki master teacher, “ trained in over 10 different alternative healing modalities.” 

 She mentioned online that she was “neurodivergent.” 

She also had an online store, The Mystic Shop where she sold Meditation and Astrology recordings.

She had over 100,000 followers on X.

Johnson expressed strong opinions and fears about the solar eclipse that took place April 8, hours after she took her boyfriend and baby’s life.
