The NYPD recently announced that social worker Julio Ramirez, 25, and political consultant John Umberger, 33, died from homicides that began as drug-facilitated thefts.

The toxicology reports for Ramirez and Umberger revealed that they also had Fentanyl, P-Flurofentanyl, and Ethanol in their system. However, their tox reports showed that they had additional drugs in their system, such as lidocaine, which can immobilize an individual.

During the thefts, Ramirez and Umberger’s bank accounts were cleared out. Ramirez lost $17,000 from his savings, and Umberger had over $20,000 stolen from his account.

Reports also suggest that at least two other homicides, similar to Ramirez and Umberger’s case, were linked to Kenwood Allen, who was charged in December 2022 with their murders.

In December, NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig reported that six people had died due to being drugged by their murderers in 2022. Allen has been linked to at least 17 prior arrests, with most of these being for grand larceny and burglary.
