The Hill Country college prep deadly shooting has left a quiet Texas community reeling after a student opened fire inside a high school before taking his own life, authorities said Monday.

Student Shoots Teacher, Then Himself

The incident unfolded at Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde, Texas, where a 15-year-old student shot a teacher and then fatally shot himself, according to the Comal County Sheriff's Office.

Officials confirmed that no other injuries were reported. The teacher was transported to a hospital in San Antonio, though authorities did not immediately release details about her condition.

The student died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, a sheriff’s office spokesperson told Associated Press.

Chaos Erupts Moments Before Classes

The school day had barely begun when violence shattered the morning calm. According to school officials, the campus was placed on lockdown at 8:34 a.m., just minutes before classes were scheduled to start at 8:55 a.m.

Students described a scene that shifted from routine to terror in seconds—like a sudden storm tearing through a clear sky.

One student told KSAT-TV they heard loud bangs from a second-floor room followed by screams. Another reported hearing five gunshots before being rushed into a classroom by a teacher.

Students Evacuated, Families Await Answers

Following the shooting, students were transported by bus to a nearby middle school, where anxious parents gathered in long lines, many praying as they waited to reunite with their children.

For families, the relief of reunion was shadowed by uncertainty and fear.

Jesse Lopez, a parent, told KSAT-TV that explaining the situation to his daughter—who has autism—would be especially difficult.

“She’ll be afraid to go back,” he said. “Real afraid.”

Investigation Underway

Authorities have not yet identified a motive for the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
