A tragic mass shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday, has left a community reeling. Authorities revealed that the teenage shooter, identified as 15-year-old Natalie Rupnow, had connections to a 20-year-old California man allegedly planning a mass shooting at a government building, according to court documents and an Associated Press report.

The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that the attack claimed the lives of Erin Michelle West, a 42-year-old substitute teacher, and Rubi Patricia Vergara, a 14-year-old freshman.
Six others sustained injuries, two of whom remain hospitalized with life-threatening conditions, while four others have been treated and discharged.
Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes confirmed that Rupnow died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Investigators are working to uncover a motive, which Barnes described as a “combination of factors.”

Court records indicate that Rupnow’s parents, Jeff and Mellissa Rupnow, had a complicated relationship involving two divorces.
