President Joe Biden stopped by his daughter-in-law Hallie Biden's home on Sunday night, just days before the ninth anniversary of his son Beau Biden's death. 

This visit comes as she is likely to testify in the upcoming trial of Hunter Biden, the president’s son, who faces charges related to a firearm purchase in 2018.

Hallie Biden was married to Beau Biden until his death from brain cancer in 2015. After his death she entered into a relationship with Hunter Biden.

The president's visit has sparked a wave of reactions.

 An NBC News reporter faced backlash for highlighting the connection between the visit and the upcoming trial on social media. Supporters of President Biden argue that his visit to Hallie was a private family matter and should not be politicized.

Hallie Biden to Testify

Hallie Biden's testimony is expected to play a significant role in the trial.

According to an October 23, 2018, police report, Hallie disposed of Hunter’s gun in a dumpster behind a market near a school. This incident is now under scrutiny since Hunter Biden stands accused of making false statements on a federal form when purchasing the gun.

As the trial approaches, the court held its final hearing before jury selection begins on June 3. Prosecutors plan to use excerpts from Hunter Biden’s memoir and material from his laptop to argue that he lied on the federal form about not using drugs at the time of the firearm purchase.

Hunter Biden has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Judge Maryellen Noreika, presiding over the case, stated that Special Counsel David Weiss needs to prove that Hunter Biden was addicted to drugs, although not necessarily using them on the day he bought the gun.

Hunter Biden's defense team has filed a motion in limine to prevent potentially prejudicial information from being presented to the jury.

 They seek to exclude references to his child support case in Arkansas and his discharge from the Navy, arguing these details could unfairly bias the jury. The child support case involves a daughter he fathered with Lunden Roberts, a former stripper and high-school basketball star. it remains unclear whether President Biden has met his granddaughter.

The defense acknowledges that some evidence, such as purported drug purchases, ATM withdrawals, and the gun purchase itself, may be relevant.

However, they argue that references to money spent on "adult entertainment, online chat rooms, or escort services" should not be considered, as they are not pertinent to the charges.
