The Senate confirmed Sarah Davenport as a district judge for the District of New Mexico with a 52-45 vote on Thursday. Davenport, who has served as an assistant U.S. attorney since 2009, was recognized for her extensive legal career, including prosecuting over 3,800 criminal cases in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She has handled numerous complex cases, including those targeting violent drug and human trafficking cartels, according to Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M.

Davenport’s reputation for integrity and public service was highlighted by Sen. Ben Ray Luján, D-N.M., during her confirmation hearing. Following the confirmation vote, senators expressed pride in securing Davenport’s appointment, emphasizing her commitment to justice and the rule of law.

Davenport’s net worth is reported at $182,975, with liabilities totaling $626,390. She is the fourth federal district judge confirmed for New Mexico under the Biden administration.

Next week, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., will push for votes on additional judicial confirmations, including Tiffany Rene Johnson for the Northern District of Georgia and Keli Marie Neary for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. Schumer emphasized Democrats’ ongoing efforts to confirm more judges despite their slim majority.
