Tropical storm watches and warnings were issued Friday morning for the west coast of Florida as a developing weather system threatens to drench much of the state with heavy rain over the weekend. The system, which could soon become Tropical Storm Debby, is expected to bring severe weather conditions, including flooding and strong winds, to Florida and other parts of the Southeast.

Tropical Storm Debby Impacts
The primary impact of the storm will likely be heavy rainfall. According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), this “may result in flash and urban flooding across portions of Florida and the Southeast this weekend through Wednesday morning.” There is also a possibility of isolated river flooding in affected areas.
In addition to heavy rain, the NHC warned that the storm could bring tropical-storm-force winds and a 1-to-3-foot storm surge in some coastal areas. This could lead to dangerous conditions for residents and cause significant damage to properties along the coast.
Forecast for Potential Tropical Cyclone Four
The tropical wave currently in question, dubbed Potential Tropical Cyclone Four by the NHC, is expected to move near or over Cuba throughout Friday before emerging over the Straits of Florida by Friday night or Saturday.
