Earlier today, President Trump slammed Democrats during his speech to the enthusiastic crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), reports The Hill.

An Overview of President Trump's Remarks

The President's statements come after last week's unfortunate high school shooting in Parkland, Florida. Since then, many Democrats have advocated for more austere gun control measures.

The NRA has also come under fire by enraged liberals. "#KillTheNRA" and other similar anti-NRA hashtags trended on Twitter over this past week. Conservatives have moreover countered the aforementioned attacks by affirming that the NRA is not at fault for the actions of rogue criminals.

Like many conservatives, President Trump echoed the foregoing concerns of many conservatives. Excerpts from his well-received CPAC speech read as follows:

"Don't be complacent. If they get in, they will repeal your tax cuts, they will put judges in that you wouldn't believe. They'll take away your Second Amendment, which we will never allow to happen."

The President then continued by asking the CPAC audience whether they would prefer to keep tax cuts or gun rights. The crowd overwhelming cheered louder for the preservation of the Second Amendment.

Finally, President Trump directly addressed the Florida school shooting and defended some of his proposed measures to prevent future, similar occurrences:

"Why do we protect our airports and our banks, our government buildings, but not our schools? It is time to make our schools a much harder target for attackers. We don't want them in our schools. We don't want them. When we declare our schools to be gun free zones, it just puts our students in far more danger."

Guns and Partisan Politics in America

Conservatives and progressives have remained at odds over notions of proper gun-related reforms and policies. Both groups have lashed out at one another in one form or another. Left-wingers accuse conservatives of turning a blind eye to school shootings, while conservatives maintain that liberals and other left-wingers simply want to do away with guns altogether.

The aforementioned Florida school shooting has reignited and intensified the debate over guns in America.
