The Year of AI Rising

The year witnessed an unprecedented surge in AI technology adoption. It became a leading topic of discussion in both creative and corporate circles. 

The world was suddenly filled with chatbots and robots. And to make things even more confusing....AI often lied.

OpenAI's ChatGPT, with its text and image generation capabilities, garnered massive attention, leading to the creation of a myriad of content, from school essays to personalized marketing pitches and even viral fake images.

AI's influence extended beyond user experimentation. 

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak hosted a two-day conference at Bletchley Park, delving into the technology's existential risks. 

 The Biden administration has issued an executive order instructing federal agencies to regulate AI, the EU has passed the AI Act.

China has also implemented stringent rules to control the technology.

The San Francisco-based start-up OpenAI faced controversy inside and out. The company went from a struggling non-profit to a billion-dollar enterprise in months. The internal turmoil was marked by a boardroom clash that resulted in the firing and subsequent rehiring of CEO Sam Altman amid a staff revolt.

Hype vs. Business Impact

Despite the hype and dramatic events, the business impact of the intersection of technologies in 2023 fell short of expectations. 

The talk of generative AI reinventing internet search lost momentum, with Microsoft's AI-enabled Bing unable to disrupt Google's market dominance.

Concerns related to data security, intellectual property rights, and the propensity of generative AI to "hallucinate" facts hindered widespread deployment.

While 2023 saw the technology as a subject of experimentation and discussion, the coming year is poised for a shift towards focused adoption.
